Mohamed Salah’s determination was on show last night with Jurgen Klopp saying that, despite scoring two goals against a hapless Everton, the Liverpool striker was left annoyed that he did not get more
Mohamed Salah’s brace against Everton was not enough to satisfy him, with Jurgen Klopp saying the attacker was annoyed after the game that he did not score more.
Liverpool earned their biggest Merseyside derby win since 1982 on Wednesday night, beating the Toffees 4-1. Salah scored two superb goals to sandwich Jordan Henderson’s dazzling opener and Diogo Jota’s strike – but the Egyptian had hopes of earning at least a hat-trick, according to his boss.
Klopp told Amazon: “He was angry after the game. He wanted to score more! But who cares?! That’s what all strikers are like.”
“His second goal, you have to force these kind of mistakes. Mo put Coleman under pressure to win that ball and from then on it is a good chance he will score.”
The win sees the Reds keep the pressure on leaders Chelsea, with just two points them and the Blues, who are on 33 points.
Meanwhile, their fierce rivals Everton have not won since September 25. Poor results has seen them slump to 14th in the Premier League.
Rafa Benitez is undoubtedly now under pressure – however, given the array of managers the Toffees have had in recent years, question marks might be more over the club’s hierarchy more than anything.
Everton fans reacted angrily at full-time. Chants of ‘sack the board’ were sung as well as Bill Kenwright and Marcel Brands experiencing criticism.
The club has had to contend with the constraint of Financial Fair Play and so the Spaniard was unable to bring in his first-choice players over the summer window and instead opted for low-prices purchases such as Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray.
“The fans were really good when we scored the goal,” Benitez said via the Liverpool Echo.
“We played against a very good team and made mistakes.
“After we scored our goal the team was reacting well and the fans were behind the team.
“The atmosphere was good. We had chances and there was the reaction of the players and the reaction of the fans. But we made another mistake.”
